You are reading this because you are concerned about your health over this festive season. We understand, it is a busy time and can create a lot of stress not just in your mind but physical and chemical stress for your body too.

What happens when your body gets overwhelmed by this stress? You may experience fatigue, headaches, pain in your neck or back, overall you become more irritated and don’t enjoy this amazing time with your friends and family. No one wants to spend Christmas like that!

Obviously you want a different Christmas than the one just described. You want to be full of energy, you want to be joyful and of course without pain. During Christmas and after. This requires you staying connected to your ability to heal, and that can happen if you make a few choices everyday that support the 4 pillars of your health.

Here are 5 tips from our chiropractor that you can keep in mind during the holiday season:

Stay active: It can be easy to get caught up in the holiday festivities and be less active than usual. However, staying active can help keep your muscles and joints in good condition. Consider going for a walk, doing some light stretching, or participating in a holiday-themed fitness class.

Practise good posture: Slouching or sitting in awkward positions can put strain on your spine and muscles. Make an effort to sit up straight and use a chair with good lumbar support to help maintain good posture. And as said at the first tip, don’t do it for too long.

Take breaks: If you’ll be standing or sitting in one position for an extended period of time, take breaks to move around and stretch or if you’re running around trying to take care of everyone, take a small break in between and give your body some rest. This can help reduce muscle fatigue and prevent strain on your spine.

Lift properly: If you’ll be lifting heavy objects, be sure to use proper lifting techniques to avoid straining your back. Bend at your knees and lift with your legs, rather than your back. As all the food, wine bottles and presents aren’t always the lightest weight.

Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can help keep your body and muscles functioning properly. Especially during the holiday season where most of us will be drinking a little bit more alcohol, so aim for at least 2 litres of water per day. Of course this can also help reduce the hangover 😉
