Throughout my life I have noticed how little guidance there is when it comes to maintaining the health of you and your family. This is what drives me, to guide my community in making important health decisions that will lead to better health and a better life for you and your family.

Sometimes clients will claim that they can see that there are subluxations in their spine. They can often feel muscle pain and other soft tissues that may have been damaged, but the possibility of a client identifying the location of a subluxation is, to say the least, very unlikely. So how do you know you have vertebral subluxation and why would you need a chiropractor?

“Chiropractic is often misunderstood by many members of our community” says Annika, the chiropractic advisor at The Right Chiro. Many people mistakenly believe that chiropractic is just a type of therapy for back and neck pain. The idea that chiropractic is nothing more than a “mechanical aspirin” has been promoted over the years by both members of the regular medical and alternative health care. Many of these people are unaware of the true purpose of chiropractic or choose to ignore the subluxation-based purpose and research.

Chiropractors are doctors who specialise in checking the stability and position of your spinal column. Most of the back problems that we work on do not cause people any pain or discomfort. A lot of the time the compensation of the problem is where you feel the pain.

So let’s take a closer look at these bones that aren’t functioning properly. We can call them small abnormalities. Small abnormalities can occur regularly within the framework of your spine, and can put pressure on your nerves located in the vicinity of your spine.

These Abnormalities in the spine we call in chiropractic terms a vertebral subluxation. The vertebral subluxation can interfere with the ability of the nervous system to function properly. These vertebral subluxations usually do not cause any symptomatic discomfort, IF they are there for a short time.. but what happens when they are there for a longer period of time?

Vertebral subluxations can cause serious damage to the nerves in the spine, and if left untreated for an extended period of time, these abnormalities can cause permanent damage to the nerves that directly control vital organs and systems in your body.

Last week, I attended a health fair where I did free spine exams for members of our community. After checking a prospective patient on my portable chiropractic table, a man stood up and said to me, “but I feel great, doc, why do I need a chiropractor?

“I hear this same question over and over again from various people I examine at health screenings”, says Justin the Chiropractor at The Right Chiro. The answer to the question is actually quite simple: chiropractic has absolutely nothing to do with how you feel, it has everything to do with how you function.

Because most spinal nerves in your body are not involved in transmitting pain sensations to your brain, it is almost impossible for you to determine when or where they have a subluxation. Only an experienced chiropractor is able to determine if you have a vertebral subluxation and if it needs an adjustment.

So at the Right Chiro we regularly perform spinal examinations of clients to determine where specific subluxations are located in the spine. Once a subluxation is found, your chiropractor uses a manual adjustment to correct the alignment of the bone in relation to the other vertebral segments above and below it.

Therefore we recommend that everyone should get his or her spine checked regularly by a qualified chiropractor. Why wait to get symptoms or pain!? Why waste money, time and energy trying to fix something when you can help prevent it?
