When we say allergies, what do you think of first? Hay fever, exactly. Although hayfever can be a fairly serious type of allergy, especially around  spring and summer,  it is not the only allergy. Allergies are caused by an overreaction of your immune system to a foreign agent in your environment. Your immune system’s function is closely connected to the function of your nervous system.

Allergies can be life threatening, although most are not, they are important to understand. Roughly 50 million people suffer from allergies in the US alone, and there are roughly 30,000 emergency visits as a result of anaphylaxis from allergies. “When the bones in your spine are not functioning properly this blocks the proper flow of information between your nervous system and the rest of your body. This then alters the way your body reacts to your environment. What is an allergy at a basic level? Exactly an overreaction by your body to its environment”, says Justin, the founder of The Right Chiro.

The following is what happens when you experience an allergic reaction:

Your nervous system controls all other functions and systems in your body, including the function of your immune system. Your nervous system is protected by your spine. When your nervous system is functioning at its best this results in an immune system that is also working at the same level. Since chiropractors work to improve the function of your spine so there is less interference in the  function of your nervous system this directly affects every cell, organ and function in your body. When your spine and nervous system are functioning at their best, this lowers the risk of an allergic reaction.

Imagine not having to worry about updating your allergy medication so frequently. Imagine being able to enjoy spring the way it is meant to be enjoyed, outside marveling at all the pretty flowers. Imagine having an immune system that responds appropriately to your environment. “With a free and properly functioning nervous system you, the possibilities for your body’s health are always increased”, said Annika (the chiropractic advisor at The right Chiro).

Your immune system’s function is closely connected to the function of your nervous system. Allergies are caused by an overreaction of your immune system to a foreign agent in your environment. When your spine and nervous system are functioning at their best, this lowers the risk of an allergic reaction. We often get asked by clients: “How does chiropractic help with my allergies?”
